How To Measure

Bespoke glass and mirror is cut to the exact measurements you give us, so a few minutes spent measuring carefully is time well spent. Once toughened glass has been manufactured it cannot be cut, drilled or altered.

What you’ll need

A steel tape measure, a pencil and paper, and ideally a second person for anything larger than around a metre. Avoid fabric tapes; they stretch.

Measuring a wall mirror or glass panel

  1. Measure the width in three places: top, middle and bottom.
  2. Measure the height in three places: left, centre and right.
  3. Give us the smallest measurement in each direction. Walls and openings are rarely perfectly square.
  4. Always send measurements in millimetres and state width first, then height.

Measuring for a recess or opening

Where glass or mirror is fitting into a recess, alcove, frame or cabinet, tell us the opening size and we will apply the appropriate tolerance. Do not deduct it yourself unless you have been asked to; otherwise the piece is reduced twice and arrives undersized.

Measuring a replacement tabletop

Measure the existing top rather than the frame beneath it if the original overhangs. For circles, measure the full diameter across the widest point. For ovals, we need both the length and the width.

Templates and unusual shapes

Anything with a curve, an angle, a notch or a cut-out is best supplied as a template. Card or hardboard cut to the exact finished shape works well, marked clearly with which face is the front. If you’d rather we came to you, we offer site surveys across much of the UK.

Not confident? Send us a photograph and your rough sizes through Design With Our Guidance and we’ll check the specification with you before anything is cut.

Still need help?

Speak to someone rather than guess. We’d rather sort it before it’s cut.
