Most of our mirrors and glass panels can be fitted by a competent DIYer or a general trade. Larger, heavier or structural pieces should always be installed professionally, and we can arrange installation on request.
Before you start
- Check the piece against your order and your measurements before removing all the packaging.
- Wear cut-resistant gloves. Carry glass and mirror upright, never flat.
- Establish what your wall is made of. Plasterboard, masonry, tile and stud walls all need different fixings.
- Check for pipes and cables before drilling.
Fitting with brackets or clips
Bottom brackets should be fitted first and levelled, so the piece can be rested in place before the top clips are secured. Do not overtighten: glass should sit snugly, not under pressure.
Fitting with drilled holes
Where we have drilled the piece for screws and caps, mark your wall from the glass itself rather than measuring separately. Use the sleeves supplied so the fixing never bears directly against the glass edge.
Fitting with adhesive
Use a mirror adhesive specifically stated as safe for silvered backs; standard construction adhesives can attack the silvering and cause black edging over time. Adhesive alone is not suitable for large or heavy mirrors; use it alongside mechanical fixings.
Bathrooms and wet areas
Leave a small ventilation gap behind the mirror so moisture cannot become trapped, and seal the bottom edge only where advised. Tell us at the point of order if a piece is destined for a shower or steam room so we can specify accordingly.
Prefer us to fit it? We install throughout much of the UK, particularly for larger mirrors, balustrades, partitioning and commercial work. Ask for installation when you enquire.
